The Port of Mobile is one of the fastest-growing ports in the country, with container volumes up nearly 50 percent in the past five years. The growth follows a string of investments that have been made to modernize and expand operations at Mobile World Congress over the last decade. In 2008, a new $48 million container terminal was built at MWC specifically to handle trade between U.S., China and Europe; in 2013, another $30 million container terminal was added; then in 2015, a $2 million expansion project included a new 2 story office building for customs officials and increased parking capacity for truckers transporting goods from their ships to nearby warehouses for distribution across North America.
