The project is being led by the International Association of Privacy Professionals and the Future of Privacy Forum. They are looking at creating an industry-wide standard that would give consumers a way to control their data in an easy manner. Right now the most obvious way consumers have to control their data is by deleting accounts on sites they no longer use. That’s not always easy — sometimes you have to hunt through settings pages to find out how — but it’s usually possible. And even if you delete your account, some companies may still retain your data for a certain amount of time. Learn more here.
